I work in a very small office where I am the only employee. I like the job that I have now, but the opportunity for advancement isn't there and he told me at my last raise he wouldn't be able to pay me any more then this amount with the exception of bonuses. I know that my position will be hard to fill so I want to give him as much notice as possible. Also, because we do have such a close working relationship it will be hard for me to discreetly take a morning off for an interview.
I think that I should tell him up front and then offer to work from home a few hours a week until my replacement catches on. That way I'm not leaving him high and dry and I can make a few extra bucks. Does this sound like a good idea or should I keep it hush hush until I have a job offer. ~~You do not owe him an explanation for just interviewing. You may not get the job, and interviews can go on for a long time. I would tell him once you accept the offer. Definitely tell your new employer you have to give a two week notice (they will only think more of your for this, anyway), and then let your boss know. At that time you can offer the same proposition of helping him out all you can until your replacement is trained. This is more than fair. I am an employer, and I would expect nothing more from an employee. In fact offering the extra help is really an added bonus for him.~~ i think you are handling it in a mature way.and if you do have a good relationship.he will not try to stop you from advancing your self.good luck.Of course that would be perfect for everyone IF you think you can trust him not to get angry and fire you on the spot. Cutting off his nose to spite his face, as it were. When you have accepted a job offer. You let the new employee know that you will need to put in your 2 week notice, and at that time put in your notice. #If you have any other info about this subject , Please add it free.# |
